The Council recognized Jim & Emily Jansen as the recipients for the Yard of Month. Council members approved the appointments of Whitney Fore and Ronnie Creech to the City Planning and Zoning Board of Adjustments and David Pace to another 3 year term on the Industrial Authority.

In other business, Mayor Claycomb asked the city council to approve a resolution regarding the Bridge Point Development streets. Claycomb said that the resolution was part of to resolve ongoing street repair issues related to the commercial development next to River Ridge Plaza. No public funds can be spent to make repairs to the streets that interconnect the various businesses. However, an ongoing effort is underway to allow the businesses impacted to raise between approximately $80,000 to make the repairs and bring the streets up to city standards. Once the repairs work is completed, the proposed resolution would allow the city to accept the streets into the city maintenance system to avoid a repeat of the current situation. Several factors contributed to the poor conditions of access streets. After brief discussion, the council voted in favor of the resolution if the conditions are met and the city surveyor and Public Works Director approve the repairs.

The council heard and the approved the second reading of ordinances related the personnel policy update; amending the current fiscal year budget; proposed upcoming fiscal year budget and the amending of the city’s water and sewer rates.

During the departmental reports, Police Chief Brian Hagg read an email that he received from a construction worker which provided a positive experience from living the city over the past few years during the Nucor Construction process. Public Works Director TJ Hughes explained to the council the findings related to last week’s water leak. He said the leak was bigger than originally thought and was discovered by a representative of the Rural Water Assistance Association, who used a aqua scope to discover the location of the leak around 7 pm that evening and repairs were made completed around 11 pm. As water pressure returned to normal, the water system recovered and was back to normal within about 36 hours of the breach. Hughes said that some reports of discolored water had been mentioned on social media. He said the best way to report issues with water is to call City Hall or the after hours phone number so city workers can address any issues.

Mayor Claycomb said that he had been approached by a community member about building a splash pad in the River Front Park. He said the person, who wishes to remain anonymous, has offered a $100,000 donation to help build the pad. Mayor said that with a serious commitment the city needed to explore the idea and see what be done. No official action was taken on the issue.

The mayor also asked the council for part of funds in the upcoming budget to split the costs with the county to building ADA compliant restrooms at the Senior Citizens Building. City and county leaders are working the Senior Center’s Board of Directors to mend relationships and return the center to central purpose to provide meals and activities for senior citizens in the community. The restrooms are needed to meet one of several needed items before Lincoln Trail will allow meals to be served at the center. After some discussion, the council approved the funding request.

Mayor Claycomb informed the council and media about a upcoming event scheduled for Saturday, July 1 at the entrance to Buttermilk Falls Walking Trail to provide rides to community members who are not able to walk the trail. The event will be held from 9 am until 12 PM.

You can watch the entire regular meeting of the Brandenburg City Council meeting in our “On Demand” section.

Members of Brandenburg City Council moved through their regular meeting agenda Monday (6/12) night.

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[59

0":"post-43381","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-news","8":"entry
"publishpress_future_workflow_manual_trigger":
["GET
