Morgan Jade Barrick, 27, was arrested Friday morning after she was indicted Thursday on 36 counts of torture of a dog or cat with serious physical injury or death.<\/p>\n
Barrick previously was arrested May 5 and charged with 35 counts, one for each dog in her residence, of second-degree cruelty to animals stemming from a police search of her residence on Hallmark Place in Radcliff.<\/p>\n
Of the animals, 21 were found dead in and around Barrick\u2019s home, including two in a white van, registered to Barrick, parked outside her residence, according to the citation.<\/p>\n
Police reported 35 dogs in total of various breeds were not provided adequate food and water with 14 dogs, 12 of which are puppies, being found physically in jeopardy.<\/p>\n
Radcliff Police Chief Jeff Cross said at the time of Barrick\u2019s arrest that his officers were acting on a tip from a dog owner who had tried to communicate with Barrick but was unsuccessful. After going to the home and detecting odor of decaying carcasses, Cross said officers obtained a search warrant.<\/p>\n
Numerous pieces of carcasses were found, some of which had been eaten by other animals or were in garbage bags, and not included in the count of deceased animals.<\/p>\n
The two dogs in the van were in a kennel and had been wrapped up in plastic bags with some type of white substance on the carcasses.<\/p>\n
Although the kennel was covered with a blanket, a strong odor of decomposition was emanating from the vehicle.<\/p>\n
Hardin County Animal Care and Control seized the remaining animals.<\/p>\n
The 36th count comes from a February 2022 case where another dog in Barrick\u2019s care died.<\/p>\n
Barrick was released Friday afternoon on a $5,000 cash bond from the Hardin County Detention Center.
