\nLocal and state officials helped a local group of students unveil a project that will help elementary students defend themselves from bullying and understand empathy.<\/p>\n

A ceremony was held Wednesday at Hardinsburg Elementary School to unveil “Buddy Benches” as part of a project involving the school as well as students at the Breckinridge County Area Technology Center. Bridgett Shartzer, Heath Sciences instructor at the center said the project is a pilot program with the state that allowed the high school technology students to be involved in developing a initiative that would help younger students with empathy and make new friends which reduces the likeliness of bullying.<\/p>\n

Breckinridge County High School HOSA Club students worked several months doing research and development and design of the benches and while welding and machine shop students fabricated the benches which has the names honoring the late Hardinsburg Elementary School teacher Eve Dowell and fallen Kentucky State Police Troopers Cameron Ponder and Eric Chrisman, who killed in the line of duty.<\/p>\n

Family members of those honored by the benches were in attendance. The benches honor each of their namesakes for their positive and their outreach ability that made a difference to others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
