\nNucor Corporation has entered into an agreement with NextEra Energy Resources LLC under which Nucor will receive 350 megawatts of renewable energy from Sebree Solar LLC, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources in Henderson County that will be built with Nucor steel.<\/p>\n
The Sebree project will have a capacity of 400 megawatts when completed, while NextEra\u2019s Green River Solar project in Breckinridge and Meade counties will have a capacity of 200 megawatts. Nucor tubing made in Ghent, will be key infrastructure for the large solar-panel systems. The steel produced by Nucor will be used for the racking system that supports the projects\u2019 solar panels.<\/p>\n
Nucor is North America\u2019s largest steel producer and recycler. It employs over 31,000 at more than 300 facilities. In Kentucky, Nucor and affiliates employ 2,000 at facilities including Nucor Steel Gallatin, Nucor Steel Brandenburg, Nucor Tubular Products, Nucor Insulated Panels and facilities that collect and recycle scrap.<\/p>\n
The announced agreement advances Nucor\u2019s broader sustainability strategy and complements a wind-powered agreement that Nucor entered into during 2021. Nucor has agreed to take a total of 350 megawatts of carbon-free electricity through these two agreements, which is enough to power roughly 100,000 U.S. households annually.<\/p>\n
NextEra Energy Resources, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy, has approximately 27,400 megawatts of net generating capacity, with a presence in 40 states and four Canadian provinces, as of December 31, 2022. Construction of the solar projects are set to begin in fall 2023, and the projects are expected to start commercial operation in 2025.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
