\nKentucky’s university presidents have met with Republican Governor Matt Bevin and House and Senate leaders to discuss the state budget.<\/p>\n

Representatives for Democratic House Speaker Greg Stumbo and Republican Senate President Robert Stivers confirmed the meeting took place Wednesday night at the Governor’s Mansion. Lawmakers have not yet approved a plan on how to spend more than $65 billion in public money over the next two years. Tuesday is the last day of the legislative session.<\/p>\n

Last week, Bevin cut state appropriations for colleges and universities by 4.5 percent, a move that angered Democrats. Democratic Attorney General Andy Beshear has threatened to sue Bevin. Eastern Kentucky University President Michael Benson said he is “slightly more hopeful” an agreement can be reached.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
