\nGovernor Andy Beshear has vetoed House Bill 18, an act he said would make it harder for senior citizens, people with disabilities, low-income families and homeless veterans to get access to affordable housing.<\/p>\n
Beshear said the bill removes local government control and autonomy, with the Kentucky General Assembly dictating how local governments act to prevent discrimination in housing. He said HB 18 would aim to stop the cities of Louisville and Lexington from enforcing local laws that prevent landlords from refusing to rent housing based on a person\u2019s source of income, like federal housing assistance vouchers, and also prevent other cities from enacting similar laws.<\/p>\n
In 2020, Louisville Metro Mayor Craig Greenberg signed a law that protects more residents from discriminatory housing practices.
