Jonathan Mullins is charged with one count of arson in connection to the Greater New Hope Community Church fire that broke out on March 13, 2021, on East Jacob Street. If convicted, Mullins could face 20 to 50 years or life in prison.<\/p>\n
The historic building was noted as the first synagogue in Kentucky, the Keneseth Israel Synagogue.<\/p>\n
A firefighter was injured while responding to the fire, and the church suffered severe damage. During an investigation conducted by the Louisville Metro Arson Bureau and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Mullins told investigators he was the Bishop of that church.<\/p>\n
Investigators said he is the one alleged to have started the fire based on evidence collected during the investigation.<\/p>\n
Mullins is scheduled to appear in court on March 18.
