According to the health department, 125 flats of strawberries were distributed through the fundraiser, which were supplied by Juicy Fruit LLC, Southern Grown and Sizemore Farms.<\/p>\n
The food safety alert is being announced based on information from the Hopkins County Health Department.<\/p>\n
The Madisonville Police Department was called to investigate the death of an 8-year-old boy who they say died after eating strawberries.<\/p>\n
The parents of an 8-year-old boy in Hopkins County told police their son had eaten several strawberries from a school fundraiser the night before.<\/p>\n
After the boy\u2019s death, the Hopkins County Health Department issued a warning for the strawberries.<\/p>\n
Denise Beach, the Director for the Hopkins County Health Department, said Medical Examiner Dr. Christopher Kiefer believes the incident involving strawberries is an isolated allergic reaction.<\/p>\n
According to a release from the Hopkins County Health Department, the strawberries were purchased at the school fundraiser for Madisonville North Hopkins High School and Hopkins County Central High School athletics.<\/p>\n
There were 443 flats distributed by North and 535 flats distributed by Central; these were also distributed by Juicy Fruit LLC, Southern Grown and Sizemore Farms are the farms.<\/p>\n
The Department of Public Health Environmentalists are taking samples of the strawberries to the state lab for testing, according to the Hopkins County department.<\/p>\n
It is unknown at this time if any strawberries in any county have been contaminated, according to the Todd County Health Department.
