On January 17, the Kentucky State Police Post 3 received a call from the Allen County Detention Center regarding an inmate at the jail who had been assaulted.<\/p>\n
According to the uniform citation, inmate Levi Parrish had been assaulted by fellow inmate Robert Tomes that morning. Major Dewayne Stone with the Allen County Detention Center informed Kentucky State Police that Parrish had been transported to the Medical Center at Bowling Green for treatment.<\/p>\n
An officer made contact with Parrish in the ER, where they observed his face extremely swollen, bloody, and red. He was unable to provide a statement at the time due to the injuries on his face.<\/p>\n
Hospital staff later revealed that Parrish had suffered a broken nose from the attack and he was admitted to the hospital for his injuries.<\/p>\n
Officers then went to the Allen County Detention Center to conduct interviews, where it was revealed that three deputy jailers and five inmates witnessed Parrish being assaulted by Tomes in the commissary room.<\/p>\n
The inmates were in the commissary room to attend county via Zoom. Video footage from the jail showed that Major Stone was pushing Parrish into the room in an office chair. Tomes then got up, walked over to Parrish, and struck him multiple times in the face.<\/p>\n
In the video, it does not appear that either inmate spoke to the other during the incident and Tomes was even seen smiling and looking around before the assault occurred. Tomes refused to give a statement to Kentucky State Police about the incident.<\/p>\n
Days before that assault, Tomes also assaulted a deputy on January 14 and was charged by the Scottsville Police Department with third-degree assault, per uniform citation.<\/p>\n
After discussing the incident with the Commonwealth Attorney\u2019s Office, Tomes was arrested and charged again with second-degree assault for the seemingly unprovoked attack on Parrish.<\/p>\n
Tomes has now been indicted for the murder of Levi Parrish. At this time, it is unknown what caused his death.<\/p>\n
