City Clerk Amy Haynes reported to the council that the city&#8217;s American Rescue Plan Act funds have been depleted. She said that the bank account has been closed. <\/p>\n<p>Mayor David Pace reported to council members that a review of issues with streets and sidewalks is underway. The list includes various issues for asphalt and concrete that is needed. No time line has been set for the necessary repairs. <\/p>\n<p>The city is awaiting a company to perform repair work on two of the city&#8217;s outdoor warning sirens. Public Works Director TJ Hughes said that company is expected to conduct the work later this week. The city has placed a siren near the slip ramp off of the Bypass near the intersection of Broadway. The equipment has been installed and is awaiting the being programmed for operation. Mayor Pace said that an additional siren is being planned near the intersection of the Bypass and High Street to help fill in dead zones. He also said that he is working with Meade County Emergency Management to review the procedure to activate the outdoor warning sirens if a weather alert doesn&#8217;t affect the city of Brandenburg.<\/p>\n<p>Police Chief Brian Hagg introduced James House as a new addition to the Brandenburg Police Department. House will be working with officers over the next few months to learn policing procedures as he awaits the required twenty weeks training at the Department of Criminal Justice Academy in Richmond. <\/p>\n<p>In other business, the council discussed pay increases for the Mayor and council members for the next election term. Adjustments to the pay for those position must be made before the first Monday of May according to state law. The council discussed the issue and decided with the growth of the city to increase the Mayor&#8217;s salary to $36,000 annually and the city council member to increase to $3,600 a year. The adjustment is required to made by ordinance which will be drafted by the city attorney and presented during a first reading at special called meeting to be determined later this month.
