Mayor David Pace then presented a letter of statement related to the budget amendment and the proposed 2024-25 fiscal year budget. In his statement, Pace told council members that no major capital purchases were expected and the proposed was to help align the financial resources for the city to continue to exp0and with the expected growth that is projected in the area. Pace told council members that the proposed budget included a two percent increase to water and sewer rates and a three percent salary increase for employees. He said that this budget was to support the most important asset of the city which was it&#8217;s employees which provides citizens dependable professional services. <\/p>\n<p>The council heard and reviewed the proposed 2024-25 fiscal year budget which totals $5,923,250. The council also heard the first reading of an ordnance amending the city water rates. The minimal of 2,000 gallons or less would increase to $18.69 for water customer inside the city limits while rates would adjust to $25.96 for customers outside of the city limits. The ordinance also adjusts sewer rates to $26.04 for customers inside the city limits and $27.14 to those customers outside of the city limits.<\/p>\n<p>Council members heard spark some discussion in the Business License ordinance amending the annual rate from $40 to $100. Mayor Pace said that last time that cost of business licenses had been adjusted was in 2018. He said city administrators had surveyed surrounding towns, which most have an occupational tax, that is based upon the gross income of the business. Pace said the average cost of the towns surveyed were at $100 or more.
