In February, a federal jury found former Commonwealth\u2019s Attorney Ronnie Goldy guilty of 14 counts, including bribery and wire fraud.<\/p>\n
Goldy was sentenced to 41 months in prison on Friday, but he will not have to pay any fines.<\/p>\n
Goldy was Commonwealth\u2019s Attorney for Bath, Rowan, Menifee and Montgomery Counties.<\/p>\n
Earlier this month, he requested leniency and asked to serve 33 months.<\/p>\n
He said he wanted to spend more time with his mother, who is battling cancer.<\/p>\n
The judge in Friday\u2019s hearing said committing crimes like these have collateral consequences.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe thought the way it came out was fair and just and that Judge Reeves took into consideration the arguments of the government and our arguments,\u201d said Goldu\u2019s attorney, Mike Curtis. \u201cHe fashioned a sentence that he believes to be fair and just to promote respect for the law and to deter. So, we were satisfied with it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Goldy will be under supervision for three years upon his release.<\/p>\n
Goldy’s attorney said he is unsure as to whether Goldy will file an appeal.
