Several lines of showers and severe thunderstorms blew across the region Sunday (5\/26).<\/p>\n
The morning round of storms caused straight line wind damage across Eastern Meade County from Doe Valley to the Flaherty area. Several reports of trees and power lines were reported along with damage to several buildings. A barn was completely destroyed in Garrett community with several roads were blocked by downed trees. Weather instruments measured wind gusts over 60 mph as the storms passed through.<\/p>\n

The second round of storms produced additional wind damage especially across Eastern Meade County Sunday night. As the line of the storms moved across the county producing gusty winds and a tornado along Knox Avenue where a tree fell onto a house. Survey crews from the National Weather Service office in Louisville determined on Monday (5\/27) that the damaged was caused by an EF1 tornado with 90 mph winds. The tornado was on the ground about 1.3 miles with damage path width of 150 yard. The storm lifted just before the Hardin County line.<\/p>\n
Utility crews worked continually to reset poles and repair utility lines. Monday evening, Meade County RECC reported 436 customers in Meade County were still with out power and just over 500 customers without power system wide.<\/p>\n
