According to arrest documents, around 1:30 p.m., Louisville Metro Police tried to pull over a car, on I-65 North at the Jefferson County line, they believed was connected to a theft and fraud investigation based on the damage to the passenger side of the vehicle. When they turned on their siren to stop the vehicle, it instead sped away and left the roadway to avoid officers.<\/p>\n
Police said the car weaved in and out of highway traffic at speeds surpassing 130 miles per hour. The driver and passenger eventually abandoned the car in the 11000 block of Summit Crest Drive, leaving four guns outside the vehicle and two guns inside, and began to run. Police confirmed the car was stolen June 2.<\/p>\n
Deonte Bass, 31, and Desmond Carney, 23, were arrested and both charged with receiving stolen property of $10,000 or more, fleeing police, possession of a handgun by a felon, and receiving a stolen gun.<\/p>\n
Bass and Carney were arraigned Tuesday morning. Their bonds have been set at $50,000 each. Both are expected back in court June 19.
