Kentucky State Police troopers are focusing on keeping the roads safe from July 3, 2024 until July 7, 2024, at 11:59 P.M. as part of this national initiative. This effort is happening as thousands of Kentuckians travel for the Independence Day holiday. Kentucky State Police wants to ensure everyone reaches their Fourth of July celebrations responsibly.<\/p>\n
Operation C.A.R.E. is timely, happening during the 100 Deadliest Days of Summer. The span from Memorial Day to Labor Day is when more young people die in crashes. Troopers are zeroing in on all traffic enforcement violations to save lives. This includes speeding, failure to wear seatbelts, impaired\/distracted driving, and commercial vehicle enforcement. Troopers are encouraged to report dangerous road activity during Operation C.A.R.E. to increase road safety.<\/p>\n
Kentucky State Police offers drivers the following tips to make sure their Fourth of July ends with fireworks and not with a crash:<\/p>\n
Make a Plan \u2013 If you intend to drink an alcoholic beverage, have a plan in place before taking that first drink. Plans could include a designated driver, ride share, or staying overnight at a friend’s house<\/p>\n
Buckle Up \u2013 A seat belt is the best defense against an impaired driver. It is the law.<\/p>\n
Move Over for First Responders\u2014Motorists are required by law to move to the adjacent lane when approaching an emergency or public safety vehicle. If this is impossible or unsafe, motorists must slow down and use caution. Failure to comply can result in fines, jail time, or both.<\/p>\n
Eliminate Distracted Driving \u2013 Stay aware while driving and put your cell phone away while traveling.<\/p>\n
In concordance with Operation C.A.R.E, if you see a suspected impaired driver, do not hesitate to contact your local Kentucky State Police Post or law enforcement agency.
