Bowling Green Police Department Public Information Officer Ronnie Ward said a person was hit by a train early Friday morning. Officers originally responded around 3 a.m.<\/p>\n
A second call came in later Friday morning after human remains were spotted in the area. Ward said the remains were likely not seen in the dark.<\/p>\n
According to the traffic collision report, Unit 1 was traveling North on the railroad passing behind 401 Kentucky Street, known as the Train Depot.<\/p>\n
The conductor advised he observed someone to be passed out and lying down on the roadway. He immediately stopped the train and notified dispatch.<\/p>\n
Officers from the Bowling Green Police Department, Medical Center EMS, and the conductor began searching the train tracks from Kentucky Street to W 12th Avenue.<\/p>\n
Medical Center EMS had located the body of a deceased male who was underneath one of the rail cars on the train tracks behind the Train Depot<\/p>\n
According to the conductor, over 60 cars were on the track. The conductor advised the engine was on autopilot and was traveling approximately 40-45mph before seeing the male lying on the tracks.<\/p>\n
Officers later identified the male as Marty Walker. His brown blanket and umbrella were found along the tracks. According to coroner Kevin Kirby, Walker passed away at 3:39 a.m.<\/p>\n
Accident reconstruction was requested and result are currently pending.<\/p>\n
The investigation is ongoing.
