\nKentucky State Police has confirmed human remains discovered last November belong to Katie Mae Cawthorn, a Monroe County woman who went missing on October 1, 2019.<\/p>\n
Cawthorn was last seen in the Bugtussle community, located just north of the Kentucky-Tennessee state line.<\/p>\n
Public Affairs Officer for Kentucky State Police Post 15 Jonathan Houk confirmed on Thursday that the remains found along Blankenship Road in Monroe County have been positively identified as Cawthorn\u2019s.<\/p>\n
Monroe County Sheriff\u2019s Office Chief Deputy Lucas Geralds previously said a human skull was found about 200 yards from Cawthorn\u2019s residence on November 8, 2023.<\/p>\n
The investigation, initially treated as a missing person\u2019s case, has shifted to a death investigation following the identification of Cawthorn\u2019s remains, according to the Kentucky State Police.<\/p>\n
Police have indicated the cause and date of death remains undetermined at this stage, and there are currently no suspects under investigation.
