Two Louisville Police officers, working off duty but in uniform, conducted the stop of a car with three men in it. One of the passengers shot himself in the head during the stop, LMPD Lt. Col. Emily McKinley said in a press conference following the incident.<\/p>\n
The officers rendered first aid before the man could be taken to UofL Hospital where he is in critical condition.<\/p>\n
The other two men in the car were unharmed and cooperated with investigators. No officer was injured during the stop.<\/p>\n
In the moment following the incident, the parking lot of Mall St. Matthews had a heavy police presence. McKinley said that was to get the scene under control due to the large crowd at the mall on the Saturday evening.<\/p>\n
McKinley confirmed the Public Integrity Unit will be handling the investigation as it happened while Louisville Metro Police officers were conducting police business. Body cam footage will be made available at a later date.<\/p>\n
There were no arrests or charges.
