The MAC Matters Gala held on Tuesday (4\/26) featured comedian and film star Chris Tucker as this year’s guest of honor. Tucker is known for his role as Detective James Carter in the Rush Hour movie series co-starring Jackie Chan. His most recent role was in the Academy Award-winning Silver Linings Playbook. Tucker is the first film star to appear at the annual gala. Local upcoming band Jericho Woods provided musical entertainment during the evening.<\/p>\n
The sold out event was held at the Farm Bureau Community Building Tuesday evening benefits the Meade Activity Center known as the MAC, a 180-acre campus with a pool, tennis courts, golf, and the newly opened health and wellness center. The non-profit organization was established in 2009. It promotes active lifestyles and a health community with daily fitness programs, summer camps, and numerous community activities.<\/p>\n
Board Chairman John Beavin sited ongoing operational costs and funding needed to keep the MAC accessible to everyone in the community regardless of income. The MAC Matters Gala has attracted other top-named performers, athletes, musicians and journalists like Dan Rather, Don Henley, and last year\u2019s guest, Olympic track star Michael Johnson.
