Kentucky State Police said the chase started in Elizabethtown and ended in a crash at the intersection of Outer Loop and New Cut Road. Officers arrested one suspect at the scene of the crash, but police said the other suspect ran away toward the Walmart armed with a pistol.<\/p>\n
Louisville Metro Police Interim Chief Paul Humphrey said the Kentucky State Police trooper was able to flag down an off-duty Louisville Metro Police officer who called for reinforcements. Humphrey said the suspect ran from the Walmart as soon as officers found him. As he fled, Humphrey said the suspect encountered a woman in the pharmacy line and attempted to carjack and potentially kidnap her.<\/p>\n
When officers approached the car, they said the woman was in the driver\u2019s seat and the suspect was in the passenger seat. Humphrey said the officer gave loud verbal commands to the suspect before shooting the man multiple times.<\/p>\n
The suspect was taken to the University of Lousiville Hospital for treatment and will be charged accordingly. Humphrey said the man should survive his injuries.<\/p>\n
The officer involved will be placed on paid administrative leave pending the investigation and body camera footage will be released in 10 business days.<\/p>\n
Humphrey said to \u201clet criminals know\u201d that House Bill 5 now has new parameters that violent crime will receive an 85% mandatory service time for sentences on violent crimes.
