A night of fishing turned tragic in West Point early Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n
Cheryl Bruner says she was woken up at 3 a.m. by law enforcement telling her and her sister that her nephew Derik Walker disappeared while on a fishing boat with his father and his father\u2019s friend.<\/p>\n
Bruner said they rushed to the scene and asked Walker\u2019s father, Michael, what happened.<\/p>\n
\u201dMichael had told me that they were having a tongue-lashing and he had went to check on the boat lights and the next thing he knew he heard a splash,\u201d Bruner shared.<\/p>\n
Kentucky Fish and Wildlife say witnesses tell them that Walker started swimming backwards towards the southern bank on the Salt River when he went under and didn\u2019t resurface.<\/p>\n
Walker\u2019s father tells the family that he jumped in to try to save Walker but to no avail.<\/p>\n
Search and Rescue Squads from Fish and Wildlife, Hardin County Sheriff\u2019s Office, Louisville Metro Police Department and others have been looking for Walker since early Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Walker\u2019s aunts believe he\u2019s alive somewhere and just needs help.<\/p>\n
The family said Walker struggles from seizures and has a history of schizophrenia and want people near West Point and on Dixie Highway to be on the lookout. They say since it has been more than 24 hours he may be disoriented, dehydrated, needs his medication.<\/p>\n
Kentucky Fish and Wildlife says they will continue to search to help the family find Walker.<\/p>\n
The family is also planning a search for Friday, September 6, at 3 p.m. and are asking for volunteers to meet at the Salt River Boat Docks in West Point.<\/p>\n
