The Army post put out a notice to the public that soldiers will be doing military training exercises. Military members will be firing weapons during the day and night.<\/p>\n
Officials said the training is important to maintain the capabilities and readiness of all units.<\/p>\n
Earlier this year, the post opened its renovated Yano Range, which opened in 1948, after a multimillion-dollar renovation.<\/p>\n
The 400-target range now has six cameras and active sensors. Target systems are now directly connected with computers in the two-floor tower, allowing integrated air and ground unit training and more advanced performance feedback.<\/p>\n
Fort Knox covers more than 108,000 acres. Of that, 101,000 acres make up the training area. <\/p>\n
Depending on the weather, Fort Knox Garrison Commander Col. Christopher Ricc said noise from training could travel about 4-5 miles.<\/p>\n
This training continues through October 8.
