In Meade County court on Thursday (4\/21), Rick Nelson pleaded guilty to theft by unlawful taking $10,000 or more, but less than one million. Nelson, the former treasurer of the Brandenburg United Methodist Church embezzled $284,762.84 over a period time. Church leaders discovered the missing funds after an audit of church records in 2014. Nelson is serving 45 days in jail and will on probation for seven years as long as he adheres to the payment schedule setup through court agreement. Commonwealth Attorney David Williams said that Nelson has repaid $10,000 of the amount owed. <\/p>\n
The church congregation was made aware of the situation in October 2014. Nelson is scheduled to appear back in court for Sentencing on May 26. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
