Tim Eling, the Public Affairs Staff Officer with the Daniel Boone National Forest, said if anyone is going out on the forest trails, expect to run into blow downs across the trails and possible broken hanging branches or tree tops overhead. There may also be eroded areas from excessive rain.<\/p>\n
Eling said crews start by clearing trees on buildings or structures, and then trees across roadways, before they even get to clearing trails, which they haven\u2019t been able to yet.<\/p>\n
October is the start of busy season at the forest. Eling expects they will have even more visitors this year, as forests farther south are more heavily damaged.<\/p>\n
Rock Bridge Road and the Koomer Ridge Campground are currently closed at the Red River Gorge.<\/p>\n
And over at the Cumberland Gap National Historic Park, they have so many downed trees along trails, they don\u2019t recommend hiking at all.<\/p>\n
Almost daily updates are posted on Facebook by the Daniel Boone National Forest and Cumberland Gap National Historic Park.<\/p>\n
Eling said another reminder for people is, fall forest fire season officially started this month. You are asked to be careful with your campfires, and to remember there is no debris burning between 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. from now until December 15.
