The principal sent a letter to Fern Creek High School families about the new safety measures that will be in place at all Friday night sporting events. <\/p>\n
Principal Rebecca Nicholas said everyone will be wanded with a metal detector before entering, and once inside, no one will be able to leave and reenter. <\/p>\n
Those attending cannot wear masks or face coverings during the event, nor bring backpacks or any other bags into the event. She said diaper bags are an exception but will be searched.<\/p>\n
She said guests who are under 18 years old must be accompanied by a legal guardian, or they must have a student ID for Fern Creek or the opposing team. <\/p>\n
The principal added Jefferson County Public Schools Police will be monitoring parking lots at all times.<\/p>\n
These safety measures come after the fatal shooting during a makeup game between Pleasure Ridge Park and Male high schools on September 29 at Pleasure Ridge Park where two teenagers were shot during the game. <\/p>\n
Police found one victim with multiple gunshot wounds and first responders took him to the hospital in critical condition. He died nine days later. The second teenager is expected to survive.
