Police said around 5 a.m., the suspect who was armed with a handgun fired shots inside the hospital, but no one was hit. Unarmed security guards dealt with the suspect until police got there.<\/p>\n
Elizabethtown Police was on the scene in a couple moments and confronted the suspect. The responding officer discharged his weapon striking the suspect, according to Elizabethtown Police spokesperson, Chris Denham.<\/p>\n
Denham said no one else was injured and the suspect was airlifted to U of L Hospital in Louisville.<\/p>\n
Elizabethtown Police are handling the investigation of the man with a gun at the hospital. They said they are still working to learn his identity and why he was at the hospital.<\/p>\n
Kentucky State Police will be investigating the officer-involved shooting. The responding officer has been placed on two weeks of paid administrative leave, which police said is the standard protocol after an officer has discharged their weapon or been involved in any critical incident. The officer\u2019s name has not yet been released.
