Diashaun Maddox, along with two juveniles, were arrested on Sunday. The names of the juveniles – one male and one female – are not being released.<\/p>\n
One of the purse snatching victims recognized Maddox from his mugshot. Tiffany Craig said Maddox approached her on Sunday afternoon around 2 p.m. in the parking lot at Jefferson Mall.<\/p>\n
Craig was dragged on the pavement as she tried to hold on to her purse. She suffered cuts and scrapes to her shoulder, knees and ankles. Craig said she pushed the panic button on her car key remote and Maddox took off. Nearby witnesses rushed over to help Craig and called police and got the suspects license plate number.<\/p>\n
Reports said the suspects were on the run from police when they crashed a stolen car at Arlington Avenue and Taylor Blvd around 11:15 Sunday night.<\/p>\n
Police said the trio is linked to a case in Middletown Target, and two in the Shelbyville Road Plaza parking lot. One of the victims was an older woman who injured her hip and was taken to the hospital.<\/p>\n
Maddox admitted to being involved in the robberies, according to his arrest report. He told police he drove the vehicle used in the crimes.<\/p>\n
When police were ready to transport Maddox to Louisville Metro Corrections, they said he grabbed a bag of money that was sealed in an evidence bag on a detective’s desk and ran out of the division office.<\/p>\n
Maddox is facing a number of charges including robbery, resisting arrest and receiving stolen property.<\/p>\n
Police advised that if someone is trying to steal your purse, do not fight to keep it. Your safety is the main concern. Police also said giving them a good description of the suspect will help.
