Troopers say 60 year-old Steven Girtley was found inside a barn on his property in Franklin County shortly before 1:30 a.m. Thursday. He was arrested and charged with one count of murder.<\/p>\n
Police had been searching for Girtley since Saturday night in connection to his son’s murder.<\/p>\n
Kentucky State Police said they responded to the area of Flat Creek Road in Franklin County just before 10 p.m. Saturday about an altercation between Justin Girtley and Steven Girtley. When they arrived, police found Justin Girtley with a gunshot wound. Police say Steven had fled the residence into a wooded area by the time troopers arrived.<\/p>\n
The Franklin County Coroner pronounced 36-year-old Justin Girtley of Frankfort dead at the scene.<\/p>\n
Steven Girtley appeared in court Thursday afternoon for his arrangement. A plea of not guilty was entered for him during the hearing, and the judge set his bond at $500,000 in full cash. He is being held in the Franklin County Jail.<\/p>\n
He will be back in court for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday.
