The ATF said the explosion happened when cooking vessel number 6 failed.<\/p>\n
Special Agent In Charge of Louisville ATF, Shawn Morrow said it was an industrial accident and there is no indication anyone did anything intentional to cause the explosion.<\/p>\n
Investigators said that vessel contained a caramel coloring the plant manufactured and there was some indication it did not vent properly. That caused over-pressurization and the explosion.<\/p>\n
AFT also believes there had been maintenance issues with that vessel.<\/p>\n
Investigators said surveillance video from inside the factory, 135 interviews, and a black box of data all led them to cooking vessel 6.<\/p>\n
ATF wants residents of the area to know there is no ongoing threat to public safety. The scene is secure and the plant is no longer in operation.<\/p>\n
Even though phase one of the investigation is wrapped up, Chief Brian O\u2019Neill of the Louisville Fire Department says this is still an open case.<\/p>\n
The investigation into the workplace accident will continue as OSHA and other state agencies work directly with the company.
