\nA construction worker has died after a trench collapsed alongside a road in Lexington, burying him under dirt and gravel.<\/p>\n

Assistant Fire Chief Harold Hoskins told media the man was completely covered when first responders arrived Wednesday morning and dozens of firefighters worked to free him. Hoskins said he was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn said in an afternoon statement that 22-year-old Samuel Tyler Williams of Frenchburg died from asphyxiation.<\/p>\n

Fire department spokeswoman Jessica Bowman said the matter would be turned over to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which investigates workplace accidents.
