The Taylor County Sheriff\u2019s Office says they were sent to Pops Road in Campbellsville after someone called saying a man was shooting at them. Sheriff Dickie Benningfield got to the scene first. He said he was standing next to his car, on the phone with the caller, when he heard four shots. Deputy Josh Durbin said he got to the scene in time to hear the fourth shot.<\/p>\n
According to the sheriff\u2019s office, they found four bullet holes in the back of the sheriff\u2019s vehicle. Benningfield and Durbin then found 31 year-old Cody Laytart and took him into custody while he allegedly threatened them with harm and death, spit in Durbin\u2019s face, and kicked the back window of the cruiser, knocking it off track.<\/p>\n
Laytart is charged with attempted murder of a peace officer, assault of a police officer, public intoxication, violating conditions of release, criminal mischief, and terroristic threatening.<\/p>\n
He is being held in the Taylor County Detention Center without bond.<\/p>\n
Kentucky State Police arrived after the incident to assist the sheriff\u2019s office and will be taking over the investigation.
