Louisville Metro Police Sgt. Matt Sanders said officers responded to the store at 3277 Taylor Boulevard in south Louisville at 2:48 p.m. on a reported shooting.<\/p>\n
Sanders said a young man, who is an employee, was shot in the back. He is was taken to UofL Hospital and is expected to survive.<\/p>\n
Police said the suspect, identified Wednesday as 20 year-old Christopher Ewing, fled the scene before officers arrived, but was arrested a short time later near Shelby Park. Sanders said the victim and the suspect were known to one another.<\/p>\n
According to an arrest citation, the victim told police Ewing came into the store armed with a handgun. He told Ewing to leave, and followed him outside. That is when the victim said Ewing fired two rounds at him, hitting him in the back.<\/p>\n
The victim gave a description of Ewing to police and told them he fled through an alley behind the Family Dollar with a female. Police said officers in the area saw two people matching their descriptions fleeing the area in a gold Chevy Cavalier. <\/p>\n
Those officers were later flagged down by the mother of the woman who was with Ewing, who told them the two had just left in the gold Chevy. Police said they tracked the vehicle down at Ewing’s grandmother’s house, where he surrendered.<\/p>\n
According to his arrest citation, police said Ewing “made multiple spontaneous utterances” as he was surrendering that he shot the victim.<\/p>\n
During an interview with police, Ewing told officers he was at the store where his girlfriend works when he and the victim got into an argument. He said the victim followed him outside, and that is when he pulled his gun and shot him, firing twice before fleeing the scene.<\/p>\n
Ewing was lodged in the Louisville Metro Department of Correction under a $500,000 cash bond. He charged with assault in the second degree. During his arraignment on Thursday morning, the judge lowered his bond to $250,000.<\/p>\n
LMPD’s Non-Fatal Shooting Unit is investigating the incident.
