Steven E. Lawson, 54, was indicted in 2023 on charges of conspiracy to commit murder and tampering with physical evidence. His trial, originally scheduled to begin February 11 in Warren County, has been rescheduled for May 27 at 9 a.m.<\/p>\n
Nelson Circuit Judge Charles Simms granted a continuance Thursday morning during a motion hour after the defense filed the request last Friday.<\/p>\n
The motion cited a change in Lawson\u2019s legal representation as a primary reason for the delay. Attorneys Darren Wolff and Zach Buckler joined the case in August 2024, following the withdrawal of Lawson\u2019s previous attorney. The defense sought additional time to prepare.<\/p>\n
Court documents revealed that state prosecutors provided Lawson\u2019s legal team with two terabytes of evidence, none of which Lawson had reviewed prior to meeting with his attorneys on August 22, 2024.<\/p>\n
Adding to the complications, records from a federal investigation led by the FBI into Rogers\u2019 disappearance have not yet been turned over.<\/p>\n
Those records are stored on a 10-terabyte drive, further delaying preparations.<\/p>\n
Lawson is one of three defendants charged in connection with the case.<\/p>\n
Brooks Houck faces charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence, while Joseph Lawson is charged with conspiracy to commit murder and tampering with physical evidence.<\/p>\n
Houck\u2019s trial is scheduled to begin on June 24, also in Warren County.
