On August 5, 2021, Shirley was shot while working an off-duty security job at the Rockford Lane Auto Sales dealership in his unmarked car around 2:30 a.m. Jesse Johnson and Marquis Mitchell were indicted on murder charges by a grand jury for Shirley\u2019s death.<\/p>\n
On Friday, January 24, the case was dismissed without prejudice. Shirley\u2019s family is now calling for a renewed and thorough investigation into his death to bring those responsible to justice.<\/p>\n
Shirley joined the Jefferson County Sheriff\u2019s Office in 2019, where he worked security at the Louis D. Brandeis Hall of Justice. Before becoming a sheriff\u2019s deputy, Shirley served two years as an EMT with Louisville Metro Emergency Services.<\/p>\n
A statement from the family says they are disappointed in the case handling and are calling on law enforcement agencies and the community to rally together to bring justice to Brandon.<\/p>\n
The family is urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward and assist investigators. Shirley\u2019s family is adding an extra $10,000 to the existing $75,000 reward for information that leads to the conviction of those responsible for his murder.<\/p>\n
Louisville Metro Police Department said they are committed to continuing the investigation and pursuing justice for Brandon and his family. The case remains open and active by the Public Integrity Unit. Anyone with information or tips is encouraged to contact the anonymous tip line at 574-LMPD.
