\nThe man found shot to death in the Russell neighborhood over the weekend has been identified as a Louisville Metro Department of Corrections officer.<\/p>\n

Michael Saye Wehdah, 44, was found dead on Cedar Street Sunday morning on February 16.<\/p>\n

Mayor Craig Greenberg says Wehdah had just completed his training and joined Louisville Metro Department of Corrections in November 2024 from the state Department of Corrections. Wehdah immigrated to the Louisville community from Liberia and has been a resident for several years along with his wife and teenage son.<\/p>\n

Lt. Les Skaggs with LMPD\u2019s Homicide Unit said Wehdah went to work Saturday at 6 a.m. and came home to his family around 3 p.m. Skaggs says it wasn\u2019t long after that the family left. He says his family members are currently the last people police believes saw him alive. The family tried multiple times to reach Wehdah before he was found dead by officers the next morning.<\/p>\n

Skaggs says Wehdah was shot, and that there are several leads in the investigation. Officials asked anyone with information about the shooting or if they spoke to Wehdah on Saturday to come forward.<\/p>\n

Louisville Metro Police Department is asking anybody with information about this incident to call their anonymous tip line at 502-574-LMPD or online at their Crime Tip Portal<\/a>.
