Drivers will pay an electronic toll from $2 to $12 depending on what type of vehicle and if a transponder is used.<\/p>\n
The Kennedy Bridge (I-65 N), Lincoln Bridge (I-65 S) and the East End Crossing will carry tolls.<\/p>\n
The Sherman Minton (I-64) and Clark Memorial Bridge (2nd Street) will remain toll free.<\/p>\n
Truck drivers now know if they are considered a medium or large vehicle depending on the number of axles.<\/p>\n
Everyday drivers will pay $2 each way with a prepaid account and a transponder.<\/p>\n
Commuters can qualify for the frequent driver discount, but it’s only after they have made 40 trips across each month that their account will be credited to reflect a $1 toll each way. Thirty-nine trips would cost $78 versus $40 for one more trip.<\/p>\n
There will be an app available so to allow the account to be checked online to keep account of the number of crossing times.<\/p>\n
At the end of the day, tolls are in place to pay for the project and will increase with time. The first jump of 2.5 percent is expected in the summer of 2018.
\nTolls are expected to be in place late this year and must remain in place until 2053. After that, it’s not a guarantee they will come off, but another decision that will be made in the future.
