On Thursday, Taylor County Emergency Management Director Ronnie Dooley said a ten-inch water main broke under 20 feet of flooded land on KY 70 just east of KY 76 in Campbellsville. <\/p>\n
A professional diver from Louisville was able to find and shut off the valve, avoiding a much larger crisis.<\/p>\n
Less than a dozen residents on Shofner Road will still be without water for several weeks, according to officials.<\/p>\n
Crews are now working to flush any muddy lake water from the system. <\/p>\n
Dooley said anyone who doesn’t live on Shofner Road and had water service turned off should have it restored in the next few hours.<\/p>\n
If the valve wasn’t able to be turned off, officials would have needed to shut off another valve that would have affected roughly 1,700 households on both sides of the road along KY 76 and Speck Ridge Road.<\/p>\n
Dooley added once water is restored, customers are asked to open facets to relieve trapped air within the lines. “A ‘Boil Water Advisory’ will be in place for residents on both sides of Highway 76 and all off roads and both sides of Speck Ridge Road and all off roads until the Diversion of Water confirms that water samples are safe for human consumption.
