According to court documents, the incident started in the northbound lanes of Dixie Highway, around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. That is when officers were alerted a Flock camera had detected a vehicle with a stolen license plate in the area, and an officer from the Shively Police Department stopped the vehicle at Dixie Highway and Millers Lane.<\/p>\n
A passenger stepped out of the vehicle after it stopped, but the driver, 44-year-old Cristina Brumfield, refused to get out. Officers tried to open the driver’s side door, but the handle broke off. Police said Brumfield then put the vehicle in reverse and back into drive before ramming into a police cruiser with an officer standing next to it. The officer escaped injury, but police said Brumfield’s actions put his life in danger.<\/p>\n
After hitting the officer’s car, police said Brumfield started driving “forward at a high rate of speed,” heading westbound on Millers Lane. Police said she drove into oncoming traffic and ignored stop signs and traffic lights.<\/p>\n
The passenger who exited the vehicle told investigators that he is Brumfield’s son, and police were able to positively identify her and get a photo.<\/p>\n
Police caught up to her just before midnight and took her to Louisville Metro Corrections. Brumfield was already wanted on four outstanding warrants.<\/p>\n
Brumfield was arraigned April 10 on numerous additional charges, including: wanton endangerment of a police officer, criminal mischief, obscuring the identity of a machine, fleeing or evading police, leaving the scene of an accident without rendering aid, theft of a motor vehicle license, and reckless driving.<\/p>\n
A judge entered a not guilty plea on her behalf, and set a $25,000 full cash bond.
