Around 1:14 a.m. Sunday, Kentucky State Police Post 15 troopers responded to the single-vehicle collision on Sano Mount Olive Road in Russell County, according to a release.<\/p>\n
An investigation found 31 year-old David King, of Columbia, was traveling east in a 2009 Chevrolet HHR when he exited the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.<\/p>\n
King told a Russell County deputy he had consumed alcohol before the crash, according to an arrest citation. He later said he had \u201cdrank too much beer\u201d and told Kentucky State Police he had about 30 beers before the crash. He blew a .130 during a preliminary breath test.<\/p>\n
A juvenile passenger in King\u2019s vehicle was transported to the Russell County Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by the Russell County Coroner, the release said.<\/p>\n
Russell County Coroner Mark Coots said 14 year-old Skyler Huckaby was killed in the crash. Adair County Schools Superintendent Jason Faulkner said Skyler was an eighth grader in the school system.<\/p>\n
A second juvenile passenger was transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital with life-threatening injuries, and a third juvenile passenger was transported to the Russell County Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n
King was arrested on the following charges:<\/p>\n
Vehicular homicide under the influence of alcohol
\nDUI (third offense)
\nTwo counts of first-degree assault
\nThree counts of first-degree wanton endangerment
\nFailure to wear seat belts
\nReckless driving<\/p>\n
He is being held in the Russell County Detention Center without bond.<\/p>\n
Kentucky State Police was assisted at the scene by the Russell County Sheriff\u2019s Office, Russell Fire\/EMS and the Russell County Coroner\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
The collision remains under investigation by the Kentucky State Police.
