A shopper followed the man around the store, recording him as he grabbed everything he could carry off the shelves. The shopper even followed the man outside as he got into a car full of several other people, catching the license plate on camera.<\/p>\n
He tried to contact 911, which then said the store had its own internal policy and the clerks knew how to follow it so there wasn\u2019t going to be anyone sent.<\/p>\n
The shopper posted the video to Facebook, hoping it would get the attention of police and help catch the thieves. It quickly went viral, gaining more than 1.2 million views.<\/p>\n
In a post on Facebook, Louisville Metro Police Department identified the man in the video as Tyler Haney.<\/p>\n
With the help of the shopper’s video, Louisville Metro Police detectives tracked down and arrested Haney and four other people all allegedly connected to the same theft ring.<\/p>\n
Police say William Helphenstine, Kelli Hendricks, Chelsea Wyland and Keith Reed all participated in thefts targeting stores across the county. They are now facing charges including theft by unlawful taking of $1,000 or more, theft of retail merchandise for resale, engaging in organized crime, and hindering prosecution.
