Bicameral legislation filed Thursday by Kentucky\u2019s Senator Mitch McConnell and 2nd Congressional District Representative Brett Guthrie proposes to allow the 52,000-plus acre park to purchase an additional 551 acres in Edmonson and Barren Counties. The bill would give the park the ability to acquire an additional 551.14 acres of land from the Nature Conservancy. Newly acquired land would enhance protections in the Green River watershed, further conserving the area\u2019s wildlife and cultural heritage while generating additional tourism to Kentucky\u2019s Second District.<\/p>\n
Congressman Guthrie said every year Mammoth Cave National Park draws hundreds of thousands of visitors and contributes nearly $90 million to our local economy. The Mammoth Cave National Park Boundary Adjustment Act will expand protections for the cave system\u2019s important biodiversity and rich history, ensuring that it can be studied, maintained, and enjoyed by future generations of Americans.
