\nA man accused of \u201cbear-hugging\u201d and \u201cstrangulating\u201d a police officer is now facing an attempted murder charge among others, according to the Hopkinsville Police Department.<\/p>\n

A Hopkinsville police officer made a traffic stop on a motorcycle on Monday (05\/12) after it had reportedly passed a vehicle on the right shoulder of Old Clarksville Pike and Ft. Campbell Boulevard.<\/p>\n
The stop occurred near mile marker 7 on the Pennyrile Parkway.<\/p>\n
When the officer began speaking with the motorcycle rider, identified as 43 year-old Carlo Jones of Hopkinsville, Jones reportedly became argumentative and told the officer that he did not have to show his driver\u2019s license.<\/p>\n
Police said the officer then tried to detain Jones, but Jones pulled away before allegedly shoving the officer.<\/p>\n
Jones allegedly ran at the officer and \u201cbear-hugged\u201d him, causing them to both fall over a guardrail, down an embankment near water.<\/p>\n
Police said Jones mounted the officer and began strangulating the officer to the point of almost losing consciousness.<\/p>\n
The officer was injured and taken to a hospital for treatment after the incident.<\/p>\n
Jones was indicted by a Christian County Jury on Friday. A true bill was returned, charging Jones with first-degree attempted murder of a police officer, first-degree strangulation, third-degree assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, and menacing.
