\nBullitt County firefighters departed for London, Kentucky, on Monday to help crews dealing with the aftermath of the deadly EF-4 tornado that killed 17 people on May 16.<\/p>\n

The crew of about 12 firefighters, who are part of a five-engine strike team, will be assigned to stations with the Laurel County Fire Department. Zoneton Fire Chief Kevin Moulton said their role will consist of making fire runs and covering that area with whatever they need.<\/p>\n
Moulton recognized it has been a tough stretch of days for firefighters in London. Monday also was the burial for Major Les Roger Leatherman, a local firefighter who died because of the tornado. The firefighters hope they can offer some much-needed relief to the crews in the disaster zone by letting them spend some time with their families.<\/p>\n
The group on the road includes firefighters from Zoneton, Shepherdsville and Mount Washington. Chief Moulton said he is proud Bullitt County firefighters can step up to help those in need.<\/p>\n
The group of firefighters is expected to head back to Bullitt County Thursday morning.
