According to the Nicholasville Police Department, the officer attempted to stop a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Lexington Road near Catnip Hill Road. The vehicle initially pulled over but then sped away.<\/p>\n
The officer briefly followed the car to get the license plate number.<\/p>\n
Police say the vehicle crossed into Fayette County, and the officer decided to end the pursuit. However, as he was turning back toward Nicholasville, the suspect\u2019s vehicle performed a U-turn and drove back toward the officer.<\/p>\n
As the vehicles passed each other, police say a man fired a gun through an open window, hitting the officer\u2019s vehicle in the front driver\u2019s side tire and disabling it. The officer was not injured.<\/p>\n
The suspect drove off into Fayette County.<\/p>\n
Lexington police used their resources, including Flock cameras, to locate and arrest the suspect.<\/p>\n
The man, identified as 23 year-old Jonathan D. Rodriguez Lopez of Lexington, was questioned at the Nicholasville Police Department and is being held at the Jessamine County Detention Center without bond.<\/p>\n
Rodriguez Lopez is facing charges of attempted murder of a first responder and fleeing or evading police.
