Kentucky State Police says they were called to a home on East Mt. Vernon Street around 7:45 p.m. to assist the Somerset Police Department with a man barricaded inside.<\/p>\n
According to an arrest citation, the man had allegedly shot into a neighbor\u2019s home because he felt threatened.<\/p>\n
The Kentucky State Police Special Response Team evacuated everyone in the area and began trying to contact him with a PA speaker and by phone.<\/p>\n
Officers eventually went inside the home after several hours.<\/p>\n
However, once inside, 69-year-old John Woody began shooting at them with a Taurus handgun that he kept in the house, per the citation.<\/p>\n
No one was hurt during the incident.<\/p>\n
Police say Woody was arrested and interviewed at the Pulaski County Detention Center, where he told officers that he felt threatened by police presence because he felt there were \u201cfake police\u201d on the scene.<\/p>\n
He also told police that he saw cars with red and blue lights outside that \u201clooked like a police car,\u201d but said he did not trust state police when they announced being at the home.<\/p>\n
Woody is charged with 12 counts of wanton endangerment and 12 counts of attempted murder of a first responder.<\/p>\n
He was arraigned Monday morning, and his bond was set at $500,000. A preliminary hearing is set for June 25.
