At this time, drinking water drawn from Herrington Lake remains safe and is being closely monitored, according to the Kentucky Division of Water.<\/p>\n

Harmful algal blooms are caused by toxin-producing cyanobacteria\u2014commonly known as blue-green algae\u2014which grow rapidly in warm water following heavy rainfall. The blooms often resemble bright green paint or slicks of sawdust on the water\u2019s surface.<\/p>\n
The Kentucky Division of Water recommends avoiding swimming or recreational contact with visibly affected water.
