According to court records, 34 year-old Robert S. Jones was charged early Friday with fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, wanton endangerment, operating a vehicle under the influence, reckless drive, plus possession and trafficking drugs. <\/p>\n
Louisville Metro Police said Jones was driving on Dixie Highway, when an officer ran his vehicle tag. It showed there were felony warrants out for the owner. Police pulled the vehicle over near Dixie Highway and Highway 44. <\/p>\n
The arrest citation said the officer noticed Jones was “profusely sweating, shaking and speaking with a shaky voice, and extremely nervous.” Police said he refused to get out of the vehicle and ended up speeding off.<\/p>\n
Police said Jones shut off his headlights and drove north on Dixie Highway with the officer in pursuit. Speeds reached more than 120 miles per hour while Jones allegedly went into the opposing lane and ignoring traffic lights. <\/p>\n
Jones ran off the road and into a field near the I-265 exit and got stuck, according to the officer. With a gun drawn, the officer said his flashlight showed Jones inside the vehicle with a gun pointed at his head. After ignoring commands to drop the weapon, Jones was able to get the vehicle unstuck and traveled the wrong direction on the ramp to I-265 to get back on southbound Dixie Highway. <\/p>\n
Officers lost Jones, but the arrest report said dispatch advised that Louisville Metro Police found the vehicle and Jones at Dixie Highway and Valley Station Road with a gun to his head. <\/p>\n
After a standoff, Jones reportedly put the gun down and got out of his vehicle. That is when he was arrested.<\/p>\n
Police said they found drugs in the front floorboard of the vehicle including small blue pressed pills and knotted plastic baqs the officer suspected was fentanyl and meth. There was also a pistol in the vehicle and a loaded AR15 in the trunk. <\/p>\n
After being taken to Metro Corrections and read his rights, Jones allegedly told police he bought the drugs because they are stronger than his prescriptions. He also reportedly admitted to running from police because he didn’t want to go back to jail. <\/p>\n
Jones was arraigned on Saturday. The judge set a $100,000 cash bond. If he is released, he can’t possess any weapons. He is scheduled back in court June 30.
