On June 21, at approximately 10:05 p.m., Christian County Sheriff\u2019s deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of North Main Street at 9th Street in Hopkinsville due to an unilluminated rear license plate and an obstructed plate frame.<\/p>\n
The driver, 46-year-old Vernon Mathis, of Hopkinsville, was unable to provide a valid driver\u2019s license, which was later confirmed to be suspended. He initially gave false identifying information, claiming his name was \u201cBernie Mathis\u201d and provided an incorrect date of birth, but his true identity was verified through departmental resources.<\/p>\n
A check also revealed two outstanding Christian County warrants for Contempt of Court and Failure to Appear.<\/p>\n
During the stop, deputies observed a small silver container attached to the vehicle\u2019s keychain, commonly used to store illegal narcotics.<\/p>\n
A consensual search of the vehicle uncovered a substance that tested presumptively positive for crystal methamphetamine using a drug test kit.<\/p>\n

Mathis was lodged in the Christian County Jail under a $15,250 cash bond.
