Miguel Angel Lopez was taken into custody Tuesday by Louisville Metro Police officers, with the assistance of a K9 unit and a SWAT team, after he barricaded himself in a home on Nichols Drive in the Jacobs neighborhood.<\/p>\n
Lopez was identified as a suspect in the 4500 block of S. 1st Street, near Southern Parkway, a shooting in the Beechmont neighborhood on April 12. That is where police found the victim, who had been shot in the arm as he was dropping someone off at the home on S. 1st Street where Lopez was living. <\/p>\n
Lopez and the victim had an ongoing dispute because the victim hugged Lopez’s girlfriend, according to court documents. Police said Lopez shot the victim in the bicep as he was driving away from the home. Investigators said a passenger was in the victim’s vehicle when Lopez opened fire. Police said Lopez placed the passenger at risk of death or serious physical injury. <\/p>\n
A not guilty plea was entered on Lopez’s behalf at his arraignment hearing on June 25 on charges of assault and wanton endangerment. The judge ordered a public defender to serve as an attorney for Lopez, and set his bond at $50,000 full cash. <\/p>\n
Lopez has another court appearance scheduled for July 3.
