Dustin Fields, 44, was indicted on June 24 by the Franklin County Circuit on two counts of capital murder and one count arson. He was also indicted on two counts of torture of a dog that dated back to February 2023. <\/p>\n
According to police, on April 30, Fields intentionally set fire to his home in the 5800 block of Flat Creek Road with his two teenage sons inside the home. Investigators said he used accelerants to start the fire that killed his two sons, 13 year-old Bently Fields and 15 year-old Rylan Fields. <\/p>\n
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in Lexington, along with ATF Certified Fire Investigators and members of the ATF Fire Research Lab, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Kentucky State Fire Marshal’s Office searched with a state search warrant on June 9 at home, collecting fire debris for evidence. After shifting through more than 7,000 pounds of fire debris, “valuable evidence” was collected, according to a release from ATF. ATF said this new evidence that was discovered is what led to the indictment. <\/p>\n
Fields was previously arrested on May 1, charged with arson. <\/p>\n
Judge Thomas Wingate set Fields’ bond at $2 million cash, according to court records.
